This morning when the teacher was getting Reece & Sam out of the car,
Sam tells her,
"Mrs. Rawley, I have a big problem...,"
Mrs. Rawley, "Whats that Sam?"
Sam, "I am going to have to hop on one foot all day today."
We both look down at Sam's feet and he only has one shoe on!
Mrs. Rawley just laughs and tells him that its okay, she'll carry him in today. Of course I ran right home and brought his other shoe...., but do ya think you could help your mother out and let me know before we leave the house???? I was a little embarrassed, and a lot amused.

Halloween Night

While Shawn and the older kids went tricker-treating, his little lady bug helped Mom hand out candy, and she LOVED IT! She would peek through the glass giggling as I went to open the door to tricker-treaters. She would tell everyone "HI, HI" and wave and blow them kisses as they left.

She also ate this entire licorice rope!

Little Nordstrom Problem

So, I thought I'd better write this little story before I forgot about it.

A month or two ago, we had a little outing to Nordstrom. We really don't go that often, maybe 2-3 times a year. We had a gift certificate and thought we'd let Reecey get some new church shoes. I'll have to find the picture, but Reece knew exactly what she wanted. She had such a great time...her and Sam love the fish tank in the kid's department! They learned about puffer fish from the show "Wild Kratts," and had all the kids in the store calling the puffer "Goffa," because that's what the name of the puffer fish was on the show. Sam & Reece both had just earned some money, and were all excited because they used there own money and bought sugar cookies and pink soda at the Nordstrom Cafe. Keep in mind that everyone who works there is so nice to these two kids...treating them like they were little rock stars.

Anyway, about a week later a friend invited Shawn & Sam to the Jimmer All-Star game in Provo. Shawn isn't the most alert driver after about 9pm, so I volunteered to drive down with them and take the girls to the mall until the game ended. All Reece wanted to do was be in Nordstrom, trying all of the ladies headbands and hats. She loves looking at the girl clothes and jewelery. We are in such trouble!

A few days later we were having a hard time getting Reece to go sleep (not a new thing). But after about 30 minutes or so of quiet we thought she had finally fallen asleep. NOPE! Out she comes in her favorite pink cupcake nightgown and her sparklely shoes and heads for the garage door.

Me, "Reece, where are you going?"

Reece, "Mom, I've got to go, we need to get into the car."

Me, "Reece, it's time for bed now."

R, "But Mom, I've got to go."

M, "Got to go where?"

R, "Nordstrom, right now Mom."

M, "What are you talking about Reece, why do you need to go to Nordstrom?"

R, "I need to go buy that headband so it will match my nightgown, Mom hurry we need to go."

M, "Reece, we can't go to Nordstrom tonight, it's time for bed."

R, "We have too! I need the headband to match my nightgown!"

M, "Reecey, Nordstrom is closed. You need to go to bed now, we are not going to Nordstrom."

R, "Mom, Nordstrom isn't closed!"

M, "I promise Reece, it's closed. Now get to bed!"

Reece with a Sad and disapointed look on her face, "Okay mom, I'll go to bed."

Shawn and I were laughing for like five minutes. Not sure if we were laughing because it was funny, or because we were so scared about her obsession with Nordstrom.

BYU Game

On Saturday, we got a babysitter from 4pm - 1am! I went with Shawn to the BYU vs. Utah game in Provo. It was fun to be able to spend so much time with Shawn with no kids. It's too bad that BYU had such a bad game...I hardly ever go with Shawn, and the time that I do...but it was still fun. We actually left at the begining of the 4th quarter and still didn't get home until 1am!

After taking the summer off, we started back with swimming lessons. The kids were so excited, and although a little bit rusty, they both did very well. Sammy can swim the full length of the pool and back. I'll post some of Reecey next week.

I am actually excited for some cooler weather and for fall to arrive! I know its early, but I couldn't help it...it's so fun to get ready for Halloween, especially when you have these two little helpers!

I have to admit that we've already ordered the kid's costumes. We started looking at catalogs and online in August....and they are already in the kid's closets...driving them crazy that they don't get to play with them until Halloween. They can just look. I'm such a mean mom.

Third time's a charm

Yesterday Sammy had t-tubes put into his ears. This was his 3rd ear surgery, only this time the tubes will have to be removed in about two years. Before he went in his hearing was only about 55%, so we are so excited for him to have his hearing back...and perhaps he will listen to his Mom & Dad a little better! He was a champ! His Doctor said he was so good, and the nurses all say that he was their favorite patient of the day....

I told Shawn that he broke her heart. Shawn then told her that he was just kidding and of course she could come too. As I was helping her put her shoes on she said, "Mom, Daddy broke my heart, and then he fixed it."

As we were trying to make the mad rush to get to church yesterday, Sammy took a little tumble down the stairs. So now he has this nice little gash above his eye...which caused him to receive much attention at church. He's such a tough little boy, after the initial cry, he has not complained since. We've been trying to get Sammy potty trained, and it has not been easy nor fun. So this morning Sammy had an accident and I was a bit frustrated...cleaned him and the mess up and put him in the tub. Last Friday, July 31st, was Shawn's 35Th Birthday!! The kids and I were so excited to have a little family birthday party for him...so we made his favorite chocolate cake with white frosting, decorated the house, had party hats,horns and blowers, a banner...and practiced the "Happy Birthday" song all day. They even help wrap his birthday presents (they used lots and lots of tape!)...so when Shawn finally came home the kids were so so amped, and practically attacked him with the presents saying "Happy Birthday Daddy, Happy Birthday Daddy." So, we sang and ate cake and ice cream without having dinner...and spent the evening at the local bowling alley and arcade...so Shawn could play..."Deal or no Deal!" It was kind of quiet, but I think we all had fun.....SHAWN I LOVE YOU!!! HAPPY 35TH BIRTHDAY!

This is our good friend Ed Aguillar, his 9 year old son Tony and Elder Shonk.
Shawn is our ward mission leader, and these are two of our full-time missionaries: Elder Shonk and Elder Ramsey. Shawn was able to help them teach Ed and Tony the missionary discussions. The Aguillar's moved into our neighborhood last Fall. We went over and met them, and Shawn invited Ed to play basketball. All the guys were really good to Ed, and he then decided to take the discussions. Ed and Tony decided to be baptized, and Ed asked Shawn to baptize and confirm him. It was a great day!

The primary had a fun activity for the kids...they wrote their testimonies and attached them to balloons...100 of them, and let them go! Sammy & Reece absolutely refused to let theirs go...and carried them around all the live long day!

We left California to meet Shawn and spend Thanksgiving in St. George.The kids were so good in the car!...with a little help from yummy red vines. So so messy though.
Reece was such an angel! And a ham... This at the St. George airport waiting for Shawn's flight to come in...Sammy was so restless. We had already been in the car for about 6 hours...After Shawn got in the car...Sammy was happy again! We'd been apart from Shawn for almost a week.

And all you Mom's will totally know why Reese only has a diaper & socks on...too much work to get her a change of clothes out of the suitcase.

Candy Popcorn Recipe

I've had a few requests for this recipe, so I thought I would share with you all:
(It's pretty easy & kids love it)

Gelatin-Flavored Popcorn

10 cups popped popcorn
1/2 cup butter
1/2- 3/4 cup sugar
1 (3-ounce) pkg fruit flavored gelatin mix (not sugar-free)
1 tablespoon light Karo syrup
3 tablespoons water

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Spray cookie sheet with non-stick spray.
2. Place a medium sauce pan over medium heat. Add butter, sugar, gelatin, Karo syrup & water and combine together. Heat until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a rigid ball - or 250-265 degrees.
3. Pour syrup into popcorn in a large greased bowl, stir until coated.
4. Pour popcorn evenly on cookie sheet & bake 5 minutes; stir. Bake 5 more minutes. Let cool completely.
It's fun to make a few batches with different flavors and mix them together...

Sammy loves pigs and was so excited about the pig races! They had 3 races, and on the third, Sam was chosen to step closer and represent one of the pigs. His pig didn't win (actually came in last), but this was his prize: a baby pumpkim...the winner got a really big pumpkin....but Sammy loved his little one! He carried it around EVERYWHERE for two days! Sammy got to stand right by the gate while everyone else had to stay another few feet back. He loved it!

Last month we took the kids to the circus. Shawn forgot to get tickets earlier in the week, so all that was left was the front row! Which we thought was great for Sammy, and it was until the last hour...he started getting restless. But all in all we had a really good time. Sammy especially loved the elephants and animals. Here are some pic's from Shawn's phone: Reece's first taste of cotton candy!
We all got onto these tram-like vehicles and were driven around the floor for 15 minutes while different acts were performing....it was fun and Sammy thought it was very cool!
Shawn & I were most amazed by the SEVEN motorcyclists riding around in this cage...talk about being nervous! These people are insane!
And here is the wonderful hat that you get when you spend $12 on cotton candy!! Such a bargain!

I love my kids, but it's so nice to have them off in dream land for a little while each day...I also love Toy Story (and love the makers for making a Toy Story 2) for helping with the effort. Sammy just adores Woody & Buzz...and now carries Buzz around everywhere...even to sleep. I try to get him to watch something else...but it's always..."Woody, Buzz!" I think that they might even trump Curious George...it would be a close race! (He'll be getting a Woody doll from Santa, or he'd be sleeping with him too!)

He really seemed to enjoy himself until it was time to clean-up. I actually drove around the block so he could enjoy his huge sucker...because it wasn't coming inside the house! Sammy wasn't to thrilled about that either.

Sammy's drinking problem

Sammy got his first watercolor set this week. He was having so much fun painting that I just let him do his thing while I folded clothes. I looked over and the little dear was downing the whole cup of paint water. Don't worry, I double checked and it was non-toxic.The other day I find Sammy throwing up all over the kitchen floor...everywhere. I got nervous that he might have the flu or something...great. As I'm consoling him, I look on the counter...and this is what I find...Southwestern Eggbeaters. I knew immediately what happened. Sammy probably thought he was going to guzzle some yummy drink...instead yuck! I think his reflux took over...and a nice yucky mess was left on the floor for me to clean up.

This drinking problem is getting a little out of control!

Before we left for Washington, we had family night with some friends...bowling at FatCats. Sammy absolutely loved it! He could hardly contain himself and his excitement. Here he is chasing his ball down the alley...Shawn had to chase him down before he ended up down the gutter! He loved doing it all by himself!

Blog catch up - again

Well here are some pictures from our California vacation last month. After the US Open we spent the week at the Newport Coast Villas with our friends, the Painter's. We had a blast! The only negative thing I have to report is that we will probably NEVER go to Disneyland in the hot summer again. TOO HOT, TOO CROWED...did I say TOO HOT? Anyway, we had so much fun, that we may make this a family tradition!

So Sammy wasn't so happy about being in the pool... He would rather stay by the saftey of the stroller (and Mom)
After a while, on his own terms, he started to get a bit braver...
Especially when he saw Boston & Max having so much fun!
So he progressively got more comfortable with the water, of course...on his own terms
We actually got him out in the water a little while after this, but I had to take him out the first couple of times...so we have no pic's of it. Darn.
